
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Due to COVID, the 2020 HPD award and recognition ceremony occurred earlier this month.

The lifesaving award recipient is Dispatcher Megan Miller. On April 18th, 2020 Dispatcher Megan Miller received a call regarding an infant which had just been delivered in a residence. While responders were delayed by a train, Megan walked the caller through life saving instructions for both the mother and infant in a calm and reassuring manner, keeping the scenario focused until responders could arrive. The end result was a healthy baby girl and a family who was thankful for the calm voice at the end of the phone helping them add a beautiful addition to their family.

Sharla Loucks was named 2020 Employee of the year. People who nominated Sharla stated that her positive attitude radiates to others. She is always willing to help in any way and she goes above and beyond. Sharla is a jovial person that makes coming to work much less mundane due to her perkiness and always greeting you with a smile. Sharla has and continues to be committed to this agency and the agency should be thankful to have her.

Lieutenant Michael Collins was named 2020 Supervisor of the year. Collins was given the task of building the special operation bureau, which was no easy task. Lt. Collins leads by example and is not afraid to get his hands dirty, often working alongside his officers. Collins maintains a positive attitude, no matter the situation. His work ethic is outstanding, and he leads by example, he has one of the most stressful leadership positions on the department and he makes it look easy. The overwhelming success of the special operation unit is a testament to Lt Collins leadership.
