Jacob Emil “Jake” Gehring, 90, died July 12, 2021, at Salina Regional Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1931, in Moundridge, to Emil J. C. and Goldie (Schwartz) Gehring.
Jake graduated from Moundridge High School. He retired as a heavy equipment operator for the Reno County Landfill. Jake enjoyed fishing and was a member of First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson.
On November 16, 1956, he married Emma Schrag, in Pretty Prairie. She died November 5, 2006, after sharing almost 50 years of marriage.
Jake is survived by: children, Steven Gehring (LaDonna) of McPherson, Shirley Peterman (Art) of Coffeyville, Jackie Adelhardt of Nickerson; brothers, Marvin Gehring of Whitewater, Wayne Gehring (Norma) of Halstead; sister, Twilla Stucky of Moundridge; sisters-in-law, Lenora Gehring of Moundridge, and Gloria Gehring of South Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willard and Harvey; son-in-law, Larry Adelhardt; and granddaughter, Rachel Elizabeth Adelhardt.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Buhler East Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Road, Hutchinson, with Pastors Tonya Ramer Wenger and Andrew Peterman officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
