The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team climbed back to the .500 mark with its third-straight shutout victory on Wednesday night at Don Michael Field.
The Blue Dragons limited the Coffeyville Red Ravens to just four shots on goal and tied a season high for goals scored in a 5-0 victory.
The Dragons improved to 5-5-1 overall with their third-straight victory. Hutchinson is now 4-2-1 (13 points) in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons start the second half of KJCCC play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Barton at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
This is the 29th time in Blue Dragon history to have at least three-straight shutouts. The Blue Dragons outshot Coffeyville 30-7, including 16-4 in shots on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Hanna Helshani (4-4-1) worked the first 73 minutes to had three saves. Rylee Loague made one save in the final 16:30 of the game. Coffeyville keeper Isabelle Grundy had 11 saves for the Red Ravens.
Offensively, sophomores Olivia Tamaki and Isabell Van Fleet scored two goals each, while freshman Montunray Ojobare had a goal and an assist.
Tamaki had her fifth career multi-goal game and now has four for the season.
Van Fleet, who earlier in the day was named NJCAA National Player of the Week, extended her consecutive game streak of goals scored to four with her fourth career multi-goal game. Over those four games, Van Fleet now has six goals and 13 points.
The game was scoreless into the final minutes of the first half when Ojobare intercepted a Coffeyville clearing attempt in its own end and worked toward the left side of the goal where she ripped a shot for an unassisted goal and a 1-0 lead with 1:07 to play in the first half. This was Ojobare's first career game-winning goal.
The Blue Dragons erupted for four goals in the second half.
Just 2:55 into the second half. Van Fleet scored on an Ariadna Zwenger assist. Tamaki's unassisted goal in the 59th minute gave the Dragons a 3-0 lead.
Van Fleet headed in her second goal of the game with 19:25 to go for a 4-0 lead. Ojobare had the assist with a perfect cross into the box.
The Dragons made it 5-0 on Tamaki's blast from 12 yards out. Keyla Fernandez and Poppy Smith were credited with assists. Fernandez had her first career assist.
The Blue Dragons are now 22-5 all time against Coffeyville with 15 shutouts. The Dragons won their eighth-straight game against the Red Ravens.
