HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Judy Collins is playing the Fox Theatre in Hutchinson next month, and she's still creating and making music, even after more than 60 years singing professionally.
"I have a new album that's coming out called Spellbound," Collins said. "For the first time, it's an album of all my own songs, all my own writing. I've written songs consistently throughout these years. One of the advantages of that is, a lot of people know my history and know my hit songs, but they also welcome the new songs that I have sung."
Collins recalls the first time she was asked about writing her own music.
"The first song I ever wrote myself, I wrote because Leonard Cohen brought me his songs," Collins said. "When he asked me why I wasn't writing my own songs, I wrote a song called, Since You've Asked, which a lot of people have sung at their weddings."
Collins keeps herself up physically and mentally so she can continue to perform live.
"I would probably not be on the planet at all if I did not have this career," Collins said. "It demands all the things you need to do to stay on the planet and still wake up every day with a new idea."
Collins will take the stage March 24 at 8 p.m. The performance is a rescheduled date from 2021. Reserved seats are $55.00, $50.00 and $45.00. For more information, go to hutchinsonfox.com.
