HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department needs your assistance with the annual Keep the Wreath Green campaign.

Once again this year each Hutchinson fire station will have a wreath hanging on the front of the station, lit up green. With each structure fire in the month of December a green bulb will turn orange. You can do your part to help keep the wreath green by following a few easy steps.

Never leave food cooking unattended on the stove.

Always have a lid nearby while cooking, especially when frying food.

Plug space heaters directly into the wall socket.

Keep all combustibles, clothes, bedding, furniture at least 3 feet from space heaters.

Use power strips instead of extension cords and plug power strips directly into the wall socket.

Avoid using candles.

Keep lighters and matches in a safe place where children cannot get to them.

Make sure to test smoke alarms monthly to assure they are properly working.

You can call the Hutchinson Fire Department to find out more about this campaign or to answer any fire safety questions at 620-694-2873.
