RENO COUNTY — Some users of the Reno County Landfill will see a slight increase in fees in 2022. The fees will support capital improvements at the landfill and help maintain current and future operations. One project nearing completion is the new scale house and customer convenience center, which will include a household hazardous waste drop off and “swap shop”, water tanker storage and filling, and a garage for field trucks.
Reno County Commissioners approved a $1 increase last March for special waste, contaminated soil, and asbestos fees that will take effect January 1. And in May, Commissioners approved a new tipping fee for construction and demolition materials. The tipping fee will be $10 per ton for all construction and demolition loads, with a $10 minimum fee. Non-sorted construction and demolition loads that have trash or other materials mixed in will be assessed $20 per ton, with a $20 minimum fee. The tipping fee was also scheduled to begin January 1 but is postponed until equipment installation is complete. The tipping fee could take effect as early as February 2022. The public will be notified once the date is determined.
Reno County residents are not charged when bringing household refuse to the landfill, however, a $96 yearly fee is included in property taxes. Commercial and industrial business property tax fees are increasing by $10 a year to $106.

NOTE- Holiday Hours at the Landfill
The Reno County Landfill will be closed Saturday, December 25 in observance of Christmas, and Saturday, January 1, for New Year’s Day. They will be open Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31 during normal operating hours of 8am to 5pm.
