James Riley “Jim” Southworth |1943-2021|

James Riley “Jim” Southworth, 78, of Hutchinson, died November 27, 2021, at his home. He was born May 13, 1943, in Hutchinson, the son of Earl H. and Eva A. (Phipps) Southworth.

Jim served in the United States Army from 1965-1968 and then spent 20 years in the Kansas Army National Guard. He retired as a bus driver for Buhler USD 313. Jim enjoyed bowling, traveling, riding his motorcycle, and making people laugh. He was of the Christian faith.

On June 11, 1983, Jim married Phyllis May Cole, in Hutchinson. She died September 26, 2013.

He is survived by: niece, Marie Meadows of Edmonton, KY; nephews, Everett Neuhauser of Edmonton, KY, Gene Jackson of Wichita; great-nephew, Andrew Jayne (Heather) of Wichita, Scott Jayne (Sam) of Eudora; great-niece, Christina Jayne of Edmonton, KY; 10 great-great-nephews and nieces; and many extended family members.

Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Margaret and Evelyn; and nephew, Billy Neuhauser.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors conducted by Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.
