HUTCHINSON, Kan. — All three area high school girls soccer teams were eliminated from postseason play Thursday evening in their respective regional championship games.
In Class 5A, Hutchinson High School saw its season come to an end with an 8-0 loss at Maize South. The Salthawks trailed 6-0 at halftime before allowing two second-half goals. Hutchinson finishes the 2025 season with an 11-7 record. Maize South (16-2) advances to Monday’s state quarterfinals.
In Class 4-1A, Buhler suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Mulvane in penalty kicks. The Crusaders fell behind 1-0 but tied the match in the 50th minute on a goal by Madi McCool. Mulvane (12-6) moves on to the quarterfinals, while Buhler ends its season at 12-6.
Also in Class 4-1A, McPherson fell at home to Topeka-Hayden, 2-1. The Bullpups struck first with an early goal, but Hayden equalized with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Wildcats netted the go-ahead goal with 26 minutes left in the match. McPherson had opportunities late but couldn’t convert.
