Jackie LeRoy Hamilton, 76, of Inman, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at his home. He was born March 21, 1945 in Tescott, Kansas, the son of Eli J. and Alida (Desaire) Hamilton. He graduated from Tescott High School with the class of 1963. Jackie served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1967, attaining the rank of Torpedoman’s Mate Petty Officer 3rd Class.
Jackie worked for the Salina Fire Department as a crew member, as well as part-time work with Sears and as an electrician for various contractors. He later moved to McPherson to take the role of Assistant Fire Chief, eventually becoming Fire Chief, before retiring in 1996, after 28 years of leadership and dedication to the fire service.
Jackie is survived by his two daughters, Jill (Jeff) Koehn of McPherson, and Kristin Hamilton Pence of Olathe; four grandchildren, Ashley Koehn, Megan Koehn, Mila Pence, and Simon Pence; and former spouse Linda (Johnson) Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Merida, Olive, Frances, and Connie; and two brothers, Donald and Marion.
Graveside services will take place at McPherson Cemetery at 11a.m. on Saturday February 12th 2022 with Pastor Bob Yates presiding and the McPherson Fire Department Honor Guard will be present. Following the service, family will welcome friends for a light lunch and celebration of life at the Inman Community Building, 406 E. Center St. Family requests that visitors at either the inurnment or gathering afterwards honor Jack’s love of sports by wearing their favorite team’s apparel if they wish. Jackie loved all of Kansas’ sports teams, not missing too many games.
