ANDOVER, Kan.-The Hutch High Salthawks held the Andover Trojan offense in check Friday night which led to a 34 to 8 win and a home game for the start of class 5A playoffs next Friday night at Gowans Stadium.

Kade Smith rushed for 108 yards on 14 carries and 2 touchdowns while Zion Burgess picked up 94 yards on 14 carries including a late touchdown to lead the Salthawks ground attack.

The Salthawk Defense was outstanding only giving up a late score by Andover in the final minute of play when Kamden Longacre connected with Nathan Wiggins for 38 yards plus a two point conversion for the lone Trojan score.

Smith scored the first two touchdowns for Hutchinson on a eight yard carry and a 39 yard run to put the Salthawks up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Devon Spiller accounted for the only scoring in the second quarter on a 2 yard run to give the Salthawks the lead at the half 21-0.

The third quarter saw Hutchinson extending the lead to 27-0 with a Robert Hunter quarterback sneak for 2 yards with 4:47 remaining in the quarter. Then Zion Burgess scored from a run of 48 yards to finish out the Salthawk scoring on the night with 2:31 remaining in the game.

Hutch High (6-2) will now host Wichita West (3-5) at home next Friday night in the week 9 round of the 2023 class 5A playoffs. Hutchinson finished 5th in the West in Class 5A while Wichita West finished 12th.
