HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council will decide when its terms begin as part of its regular agenda on Tuesday.
Thanks to a 2019 change in Kansas statute, the term of a city council member can now begin as soon as a date after December 1 following the certification of the election and no later than the second Monday in January following the certification of the election.
The body must decide whether to reorganize itself at one of the December meetings or the first one in January. The date must receive two-thirds support to pass.
Also on Tuesday, the City will look to approve the Trucks, Taps and Tunes event for Hospice and Homecare of Reno County scheduled for May 15 in Carey Park.
The Council will also vacate a portion of right-of-way at 3304 North Severance on which part of the Hutchinson East Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses building already sits.
The meeting of the Hutchinson City Council will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at City Hall. It can be viewed on the City's Facebook page.
