
Scott Errol Thomas, of Hutchinson, passed away at his home on March 15, 2021, after a valiant 16-month battle with cancer. He was born June 26, 1970, in Hutchinson, to Donald Lee and Gayle (Smith) Thomas.
Scott graduated from Buhler High School in 1988. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, specializing in Social Sciences, from Kansas State University in 1995. Scott went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education from Baker University in 2005. He began teaching at Hutchinson High School in 1996 and was completing his 25th year of service at the time of his death.
Scott was united in marriage to Melissa Kay Hittle on July 20, 1996, at Grandview United Methodist Church, in Winfield. Their almost 25 years together included lots of love and laughter.
Outside of his family, Scott’s passion was sharing the stories of history to the many students who were a part of his classes at HHS over the years. In his spare time, Scott could often be found watching K-State sports, enjoying Star Wars movies, or playing disc golf with friends.
Scott is survived by: his wife, Melissa of the home; mother, Gayle Thomas of Hutchinson; brother, Cameron (Jeanne) Peirce of Hutchinson, mother-in-law, Mary Hittle of Winfield; brothers-in-law, Kerry (Carley) Hittle of Andover and Larry J. Hittle of Winfield; uncles, Allen Thomas of Council Grove and Bob (Jan) Thomas of Park City; nephew and niece, Blaise and Monica Hittle of Andover; nephews, Connor and Hayden Peirce of Hutchinson; and faithful canine companions, Abby and Dexter.
He was preceded in death: by his father, Don; his father-in-law, Larry G. Hittle; and grandparents: Charles Kenneth and Selma Beth Smith and Clyde Allen and Edith Ora Thomas.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Journey@South Hutch, 808 S Poplar St., South Hutchinson. Burial will take place 10 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2021, at Highland Cemetery, Winfield. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Guests are encouraged to wear K-State Wildcats or Hutchinson Salthawks gear in honor of Scott’s love of both.
