Dr. Roger Marshall sworn in as new U.S. Senator

WASHINGTON— Congress has convened for a new session with lawmakers sworn into office during a tumultuous period.  The New United States Senator from Kansas Dr. Roger Marshall was sworn in to the 117th Congress by Vice President Mike Pence.

Marshall was accompanied by outgoing Senator Pat Roberts and Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell

Marshall wrote on social media, "Honor of a lifetime to serve Kansas." He follows in the footsteps of Bob Dole, Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran who served as congressman from the first district of Kansas before election to the Senate.

Opening the Senate could be among McConnell’s final acts as majority leader. Republican control depends on Tuesday’s runoff elections for two Senate seats in Georgia.
