Sonya Kay Chambers, 79, died August 3, 2021, at The Arbors at Waldron Place, in Hutchinson. She was born September 8, 1941, in Los Angeles, CA, to Hershel and Dorothy (Oeser) Gum.
Sonya graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1961. She worked as a secretary and in sales before joining her sister, Carolyn, in her cleaning business, “A Woman’s Touch”. Sonya also worked as a private duty caregiver. She was an avid walker, enjoyed playing tennis, and loved cats. Sonya was a member of First Christian Church.
She is survived by: sons, Adam Chambers of Topeka, Shaun Chambers of Meriden; granddaughters, Crystal Puglisi (Nicholas) of Lawrence, Caitlin Chambers of Topeka, Kyra Chambers of Tooele, Utah; sister, Carolyn Bennett of Hutchinson; half-sister, Sheila Miller of Sterling; and numerous extended family members.
Sonya was preceded in death by her parents.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd., Hutchinson. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
