
ELLSWORTH COUNTY, Kan. — An 18-year-old Lyons High School student was killed Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash on K-156 Highway, approximately 3.4 miles northeast of Ellsworth.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. near milepost 169. A 2011 Chrysler 200, driven by Nathaniel B. Dold, of Sterling, was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound 2021 Peterbilt semi-truck hauling a cattle trailer.
Dold, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi-truck, 58-year-old Noel J. Schilling of Morrill, was wearing a seat belt and sustained suspected minor injuries. He was transported to Ellsworth County Hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Ellsworth Service Center. The crash remains under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
