Katie “Mae” Popp, 93, of Hutchinson, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Wesley Towers, Hutchinson. She was born August 12, 1928, in Yoder, Kansas, as one of 12 children to D.Y. and Susan (Nissley) Bontrager.
Mae married Herman Popp in 1949 and is survived by her two sons: Jory (Gloria) Popp, Orangeburg, South Carolina and Hal (Dana) Popp, Haven; 7 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Mae was a lifelong member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haven, Kansas.
During her lifetime, Mae served as National President of the Auxiliary of the National Sheep and Wool Growers Association, the HCC School Board and the South Hutchinson City Council.
She loved to serve her community and was elected as the committee delegate for Reno County, and Chairman for the 4th District of Kansas. Mae also served as the Kansas delegate during the John F. Kennedy and Jimmy Carter’s presidency.
Memorial services will take place at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2022 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Haven. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
