
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The USD 308 Board of Education met on Monday Night at the USD 308 Administration Center
In the meeting, the board of education took a brief break to see the newly wrapped school bus that was designed by Hutchinson High School students. This project, fully funded by Duram School Services.

The board was able to interact with one of the student designers and USD 308 staff involved. Mike Simmons from Durham School Services was in attendance as well.
This project was aimed at enhancing the visibility and branding of the district’s transportation services.

The board of education approved the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. The calendar includes:
• The first day of school for students in first through ninth grades will be Wednesday, Aug. 13.
• High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors will begin classes the next day.
• Kindergarten students will start on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
• Thanksgiving break will be Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Friday, Nov. 28.
• Winter break will run from Tuesday, Dec. 23, through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. Classes will resume Wednesday, Jan. 7, following teacher workdays on Jan. 5-6.
• The last day of school will be a half day on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
• Hutchinson High School commencement is set for Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The board also approved the the job description for the Financial Operations Specialist position. This role will oversee and manage business operations and financial records for the district while ensuring compliance with policies, regulations, and best practices. The position will be based in the business office and report to the director of financial management.
The board voted 6-0 to accept bid from Wray and Sons Roofing to replace a section of roofing at Hutchinson High School. The section, located above the music records room, was last replaced in the late 1990s and has experienced numerous leaks.
