HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commissioner Bob Bush died Monday after a multi-year battle with cancer. His colleague on both the commission and the Hutchinson City Council, Ron Sellers, spoke about Bush at length at Tuesday's county commission meeting.
Bush was elected to the county commission in 2016. Prior to that, he served as a city commissioner and mayor in Hutchinson. He also served on various boards and commissions within the community. Bush is survived by his wife Anne and son Jack. Bob and Anne Bush were co-owners of City Beverage. Sellers noted the Bushes interest in public art.
"I think I can speak for all the citizens of Reno County that we mourn the passing of Bob and convey to his family the deepest sympathies from Reno County, its employees and its citizens," Sellers said. "Bob, you will be missed greatly."
Bush continued to serve on the commission into his last days, joining meetings by phone when too ill to make it in person.
"I never once heard him complain of his condition," Sellers said. "A very honorable person."
Commissioner Ron Hirst added his thoughts on Bush's service on the county commission.
"Bob brought out the intellectual about each person that stood before us, as well as those who sat with him," Hirst said. "He received the highest compliment I think any of us could receive with the fact that people respected him and his thoughts."
Funeral arrangements for Bush are still pending.
