HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Candace Davidson with the YMCA said be ready to commit as you try to get in shape for 2022.

"We're waiving our joiner fee all through January," Davidson said. "That helps a lot with the cost. We always have scholarships available if that's an issue with cost. Once you get in the doors, make sure that you come in, get involved, maybe a class. We have aerobics classes, we have spin classes, we have water classes. Those people are always excited to have new people in their classes and it's a great community type of feel, so you want to come back, you want to hang out with your friends."

It's also good to get a workout buddy.

"If you're already a member of the Y and you bring a friend, that friend gets their joiner fee waived, as well," Davidson said. "When they get to join, then you'll have a buddy, somebody that comes with you. Especially when you first start exercising, having a buddy, having somebody that makes you accountable to actually show up to work out is the easiest way to stick with it."

Make it an appointment that you have to meet.

"We see the same people at the same time every day," Davidson said. "That is the only way to stick with it. If you're coming in at 5 a.m. every day, you will get up and come in at 5 a.m. every day. Whatever time of day it is, it's important to schedule on your calendar like you would a doctor's appointment or another important meeting that you need to go to."

The Hutchinson YMCA is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can call for more information to (620) 662-1203.
