Maxine Doris Pauls, 101, died June 29, 2022, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born December 28, 1920, in Little Valley, to J. Arthur and Minnie W. (Achilles) Briggs.
Maxine graduated from Inman High School in 1938, and attended Salt City Business College. She was a Rosie the Riveter, helping to assemble gliders in the former Eaton building. Later, Maxine, along with her husband, children, sister, and brother-in-law were custom harvesters for many years. She loved spending quality time with her family during harvest season. Maxine then began her career at Hutchinson Hospital, where she worked in the dietary department. At the time of her retirement from the hospital, she was a dietary supervisor. Maxine had a gift for doing whatever it took to help her patients. Her hard work and dedication were noticed, and she received one of the Krause-Carey Outstanding Employee Awards at the hospital. This was given to employees who possess a good work ethic, customer service, and above all, went the extra mile to help the patients. After retirement, Maxine enjoyed attending the Delos V. Smith Sr. Citizens Center, playing pitch and bunco with her friends, and sharing quality time with her family.
On October 2, 1949, she married Walter Henry Pauls, in Inman. He died November 26, 1985, after sharing 36 years of marriage.
Maxine is survived by: son, Brad Pauls (Lori); son-in-law, Merle Lemen, Jr.; grandsons, Andrew Lemen, Zach Pauls (Maddie) and Taylor Pauls. two great-grandsons, Miles Benjamin-Pauls and Oliver Benjamin-Pauls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Cindy Lemen; three sisters; and one brother.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Private inurnment will be in North Inman Cemetery. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
