⚾ Hutch Monarchs bomb the Black Sox; Smajstrla hits for the cycle

HUTCHINSON, Kan.-The Hutchinson Monarchs pounded out 25 runs on 25 hits with only 1 error on Monday night in route to a 25-3 win over the Wichita Black Sox at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson.

Both the margin of victory and number of hits earned over 6 innings is a Monarch record.

On top of that, Brett Smajstrla (pronounced: Suh-ma-struh-luh), hit for the cycle to become the first Monarch to ever accomplish that magical feat.

Smajstrla, center fielder out of Sam Houston State, home town of Pearland, Texas went 5 fo6, flying out to center field in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, tripled and singled in the 4th inning, doubled in the 5th and hit a 2-run homer in the 6th inning. Smajstrla also had 5 RBI's to top off his big night.

Smajstrla, currently coming into his sophomore year is in the transfer portal leaving Sam Houston State is certain to get looks after his start with the Monarchs this summer. Smajstrla will have 3 years of eligibility remaining and totes a 3.4 gpa being a mechanical engineering major

Colin Cymbalista, filling in for Cooper Harris at catcher was also 4 for 5 with 5 RBI's.

The Monarchs scored 3 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 3rd, 8 in the 4th, 5 in the 5th and 5 in the 6th innings in the rout of the Black Sox.

Head coach, Casey Lippoldt came on in relief in the top of the 7th and promptly gave up a two run blast to Wesley Phillips before retiring the side. Garrett Folmar earned the win for the Monarchs.

Cooper Harris came out of the Monarch dugout to settle Lippoldt down allowing Lippoldt to stay in the game to close out the Black Sox.

Next action for the Monarchs will be Wednesday as they host to Kansas Cannons at Hobart-Detter. First pitch is a 7pm on Hutchpost.com and monarchs live.tv.
