Galen Keith Froese, 77, of Buhler, died December 18, 2020, at Pleasant View Home in Inman. He was born June 19, 1943, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Harold and Adeline (Pauls) Froese.
Galen graduated from Buhler High School in 1961 and completed his two years of 1W service in Denver, Colorado. Galen spent a number of years working together with his father in his masonry business before taking on the business himself and spending quite a few years designing and building numerous fireplaces and other brick and stone structures. As this work began to take a toll on him physically, Galen ventured into various jobs, including selling wood-burning stoves and even driving for UPS, before landing at Inman Irrigation, where he developed the turf division and sold traveling sprinkler systems. He eventually bought out this division and moved on privately for the remainder of his career.
Galen was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church in Inman, KS, where he served in numerous positions, including usher and trustee. Galen enjoyed collecting John Deere toys, working outdoors, and finding a way to provide everything his family ever needed.
On October 6, 1967, Galen married Fern Ella Doerksen in Inman. They shared 53 years together.
He is survived by wife, Fern; children, Greg Froese (Lisa), Keri Maurer (Bill), both of Inman, and Angie Plett (Dustin), Sterling; grandchildren, Emma, Garrett, and Morgan Froese; Lauren and Sydney Maurer; and Rylie and Kynli Plett; as well as sister, Carnie Verrelli (Terry), New Wilmington, PA.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family service will be live streamed at www.bethelinman.org at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 21, 2020. A Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m., open to the public, at Buhler East Cemetery, 5 miles east of Buhler. Please feel free to bring a chair. Viewing will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Buhler Mortuary. Family will not be present.
