Kathryn Laura (Holecek) Hill |1944-2022|

Kathryn Laura (Holecek) Hill, 78, of McPherson, passed away at 11:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022 at The Cedars Health Care Center.

Kathy was born in McPherson, on February 17, 1944, the daughter of Leona (Kleiber) and F. Wayne Holecek. She attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1962. She graduated from Kansas State University, concentrating on elementary education.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McPherson.

After graduating, Kathy worked at raising her family and supporting Bill’s career as they moved from Illinois, to Nebraska, then Iowa, and finally Florida. Kathy began her teaching career in Florida and continued it after relocating in 1979 to Dodge City, Kansas, to be closer to family. Kathy taught special education for 25 years in Dodge City before retiring in 2004 to her hometown, McPherson. She taught a few more years in McPherson before transitioning to a paraprofessional educator role at McPherson Middle School. Kathy enjoyed K-State athletics, especially K-State football. She loved spending time with her family, socializing and traveling with friends new and old. Kathy and Bill enjoyed their social life and always enjoyed a party with friends of whom they had many. They had their childhood friends, condo friends, Dodge City friends, Florida friends, K-State friends, work friends, yoga friends, and many more. Kathy was small in stature, but her voice, smile and laugh are remembered by everyone!

Kathryn Laura Holecek was united in marriage to William Harve Hill, Jr. on January 15, 1965, in McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first house together in Manhattan, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons, Jeff and Andy.

Kathy was proceeded in death by her parents Wayne and Leona Holecek and her husband, Bill; She is survived by her children Jeff Hill and wife Nanette, of Tecumseh, Kansas; and Andy Hill and his wife Megan, of Louisburg, Kansas; her brother John Holecek, of McPherson, Kansas, sister-in-law Sara Bremyer and her husband Jay, of McPherson, Kansas, brother-in-laws Bob Hill of McPherson, Kansas, David Hill and his wife Lisa, of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is also survived by grandchildren: Caitlin Butto (David), Madeline Kolman (Alec), Benjamin Hill, Alison Hill, Jake Hill, Noah Hill, Luke Hill; her great granddaughter, Natalia Butto; and nephews Seth Bremyer and Aaron Bremyer (Dionne).

A celebration of life will be held for Kathy and Bill on Thursday, April 21st, at 11:00 a.m. at Glidden-Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas with Reverend Emily Cannon officiating. Email John Holecek at [email protected] for a link to a livestream.
