Nicholas ‘Nick’ Ray Clapper, Sr., 83, passed away September 28, 2021, at Hospital District 1 of Rice County, Lyons. He was born June 21, 1938, in Dodge City, to Joseph L. and Wava L. (Record) Clapper.

Nick was employed by Rainbow Bakery, Hutchinson, as a bakery confectioner, retiring with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed playing billiards and cards. Nick was an avid television viewer of Western movies and shows, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. In his early years, he enjoyed reading, especially Western stories.

On January 8, 1958, Nick married Lenora Boyles, in Guymon, OK. They shared over 55 years of marriage, prior to her death on December 14, 2013.

He is survived by: children, Tyra (Russell) Marshall of Hutchinson, Charles Clapper of Lyons, and Christine Gonzalez of Lyons; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Shirley Baker of Hoxie, David Clapper of Hoxie, and Dennis Clapper of Texas.

Nick was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Lenora Clapper; son, Nicholas Clapper, Jr.; and brother, Earl Clapper.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
