
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a dominant 88-72 win over Lamar Community College on Saturday night at the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons (4-1) responded after Friday’s setback to Southwestern Christian behind a career performance from sophomore guard Kyrell Shaw, who poured in a career-high 37 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his first career double-double. Shaw went 11 of 22 from the field and 14 of 15 at the free-throw line.
Hutchinson built a 41-30 halftime lead and continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring Lamar 47-42. The Blue Dragons shot 46.4 percent overall and 94.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Sophomore Bobby Cannon added 21 points on 8 of 14 shooting with three 3-pointers, while sophomore Anthony Alston came off the bench to score 11. Freshman Chudier Dorar nearly added a double-double with six points and 10 rebounds. Hutchinson outrebounded Lamar 47-37 and finished with 15 assists on 32 made field goals.
Lamar (2-2) was led by Ahmed Cisse, who scored 16 points. Jaylon Brown added 14 points and six rebounds, and Gavin Dabney finished with 12.
The Blue Dragons return to the Sports Arena on Wednesday to host Labette Community College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
