City can't comment on potential county action

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson City Manager Jeff Cantrell could not comment if the city would entertain some type of pandemic restrictions if the county were to remove the governor’s health order.

Reno County Commissioner Ron Hirst asked for consensus to remove the mask mandate from the health order during today's meeting. The matter could come up for action next Tuesday. Interim commissioner Mark Steffen said he wants to see the health order removed all together. It was part of an hour-long barrage of questions and comments regarding the state and local action in dealing with the pandemic.

The council discussed the matter several weeks ago when it looked like the county would not take action put in place by the governor. While the discussion took place there was never a consensus on how to deal with the matter. It became a moot point when the county did follow the state's health order.
