HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Libertarian Party of Kansas chairman Rob Hodgkinson wants Kansans to know that he considers his party's ideals to be in the mainstream here in Kansas.
"We actually have principles," Hodgkinson said. "We have a north star to follow that the other parties don't. The personal responsibility is absolutely a mandate. We trust Americans to make their own choices. We trust Kansans to make their own choices. We trust people to make their own choices, versus Republicans and Democrats that think we have to be controlled in certain areas."
One of the points in the party platform is continued oversight to be sure that everything government has been tasked to do, it still needs to do, or if it doesn't, make sure that law goes away.
"There should be a sunset on every single law made, period," Hodgkinson said. "At some point, we need to re-look at it. Everything changes. Mercy, look at the last 18 months with the COVID situation and all the stuff. All of a sudden, wham, everything changed. Do we still want to be doing the same thing the same way? Do we want to keep rowing ourselves upstream? Is it time to pull over and take a good look at where we're at."
Reno County residents will have an opportunity to take a good look at the Libertarian Party next month.
"In the Hutchinson area, June 19th, we're going to have a local thing there at Metropolitan Coffee," Hodgkinson said. "It's on Saturday, June 19th at 6 p.m."
Read their platform at the Party's website and come with questions on the 19th.
