Just after midnight Monday, police responded to reports of a stabbing in the 100 block of North St. Francis in Wichita, according to a social media report from police.
When officers arrived, they located a 22-year-old woman with a stab wound to her abdomen.

EMS transported her to an area hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation revealed the victim was walking to her vehicle and was approached and stabbed by a suspect later identified as Elam, who fled northbound through the alley. Police released a security camera video of him.
Elam has previous convictions for aggravated indecent liberties with a child and is a registered Kansas sex offender, according to the KBI offender registry. The crimes occurred in Wichita in 2012 and 2013 and included a 5-year-old victim. A jury convicted him of the crimes in 2014.
