HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 3 Hutchinson Community College football team bounced back from its lone defeat of the season with a 44-0 thumping of Highland on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
Waymond Jordan Jr. proved why he is the rushing leader in the NJCAA, going for 213 yards and three scores. The 213 yards are a new career-high for Jordan Jr.
The Blue Dragons' offense clicked on all cylinders in the win, putting 511 yards on 65 plays (7.9 yards per play).
HutchCC (8-1, 4-1 KJCCC) turned the ball over six times in its 27-22 loss at home to Butler two weeks ago, but on Saturday there were no turnovers committed.
The Blue Dragons also got its starting quarterback, Samari Collier, back on the field after missing the Butler game with an injury. Collier threw for 149 yards on 10 completions and two touchdowns.
The two passing touchdowns came in the second quarter, one a 54-yard pass to Derrick Salley Jr. and another less than two minutes later on a 33-yard connection with Tre Brown.
The Blue Dragon defense came up with two takeaways in the win, an interception for JaQuel Mack and Kollin Collier.
Hutchinson held Highland to 62 yards passing, a team that came in ranked No. 6 in the country in passing yards per game at over 260 a contest.
Highland (5-5, 1-5) gained 136 yards of offense on 60 plays (2.2 yards per play), 74 of which came on the ground.
