HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The annual Hutchinson Emancipation Day events are this weekend.

"We've got a lot of fine activities coming through our parade this Saturday," said Shontina Tipton, parade chair. "We have got drill teams coming from Florida, Kansas City, Wichita and Salina. I'm looking forward to making sure that we're going to have a fantastic time this Saturday at the parade."

Long-time chair Dellis Neal is pleased to collaborate with HutchCC once again this year.

Hutch Juco has stepped up," Neal said. "Dr. Carter File has just been awesome in helping us over the years since we have had it at Hutch Juco. I know a lot of people really miss it being at the park, but there's lots of reasons why we don't have it at the park anymore."

Neal said those with questions can contact any committee member and she'd like to see a good turnout this year.

"It's been a rough last couple of years," Neal said. "To see people come together, have a good time and not worry about race or anything like that. That's what makes it special for me and it's been that way since I've been on the committee."
