KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly adding veteran kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad as the team looks to address recent struggles in its kicking game.
The move, first reported Wednesday by The Kansas City Star, would give Kansas City an experienced alternative to longtime kicker Harrison Butker, who has struggled with consistency this season.
Tucker, 36, has not played in an NFL game since the 2024 season. The former Baltimore Ravens standout served a 10-game suspension in 2025 for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy following allegations of sexual misconduct involving massage therapists.
Butker has converted 11 of 16 field-goal attempts this season, including just one of three attempts during Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He missed a 58-yard attempt before halftime and a 45-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.
Kansas City worked out multiple kickers Tuesday before reportedly deciding to add Tucker. Butker remains on the Chiefs' active roster.
Tucker spent 13 seasons with Baltimore, establishing himself as one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history. He earned seven Pro Bowl selections and five first-team All-Pro honors while converting 89.1% of his career field-goal attempts, the second-highest percentage in league history.
His production declined during his final season with the Ravens in 2024, when he made just 22 of 30 field-goal attempts for a career-low 73.3% success rate.
Baltimore released Tucker in May 2025 after allegations of inappropriate conduct during massage therapy sessions surfaced earlier that year.
The Baltimore Banner reported allegations from 16 massage therapists who accused Tucker of inappropriate sexual behavior during appointments between 2012 and 2016 at several Baltimore-area spas. Additional women later came forward with similar accusations.
Tucker has repeatedly denied the allegations, maintaining that he never acted inappropriately during professional massage sessions. His representatives also disputed reports that he had been banned from certain spas.
Tucker was not criminally charged in connection with the allegations, and the Ravens described his release as a football decision.
The NFL subsequently suspended Tucker for 10 games under its personal conduct policy. He served the suspension while unsigned and is eligible to return to competition.
Tucker reportedly worked out for the New York Jets in September before receiving an opportunity with Kansas City.
The Chiefs are scheduled to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Tucker could be elevated from the practice squad if Kansas City decides to make a change at kicker.
