General election today; Polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It is general election day with statewide and local races on the ballot.

There are three seats being voted on today for Reno County Commission. One is the seat being vacated by Ron Sellers in District 1. Randall Parks is on the ballot for that seat, with Cris Corey staging a write in campaign. Also up for grabs are the two new seats with the expanded commission that was approved by the public. In District 4, Democrat Michael Jobe and Republican Mark Reese are facing off in the general election. In District 5, Don Bogner won the primary, but Penny Poitras is staging a write in campaign.

Also up today is the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Jerry Moran. He has two opponents in that race, Libertarian David C. Graham and Democrat Mark R. Holland.

Also up are all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Kansas Governor's race is also being contested between four candidates, incumbent Democrat Laura Kelly, Libertarian Seth Cordell, Republican Derek Schmidt and Independent Dennis Pyle.

There are also races for Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, and Insurance Commissioner.

All 125 state house seats are up for election.

Two Reno County judges are up for retention, Trish Rose and Daniel Galligan.

The State Board of Education seats are also up.

Six of the seven Kansas Supreme Court seats are up for retention, as are seven on the Court of Appeals. 

Two Constitutional Amendments are up.

The quarter-cent sales tax renewal in the City of Hutchinson is on the ballot, as is a special question in Arlington for a 1% sales tax increase for 10 years for road and street operation and maintenance.

One polling location note: Haven residents who normally vote at the Haven Senior Citizens Center at 106 Kansas Ave will be voting at the Haven Community Building at 215 South Reno.
