In a lengthy city council meeting on Tuesday evening the council paved the way for two new apartment projects in the city.
The first project, Hutchinson Park LP, the council approved $7.582 million in Industrial Revenue Bonds for a proposed 48-unit housing complex located just south of the Atrium Site at 11th and Lorraine. The request includes a 10-year property tax exemption. As part of the agreement, the developer will pay a $250 per unit fee to the city in exchange for the exemption.
In another matter the council approved the reduction in building fees and water tapping fees for the project.
The second project, Plaza Trails project, would bring 36 new housing units to a site near the Dillons store on 30th Street. The council approved $10.9 million in IRBs, also with a 10-year property tax abatement. Like the Hutchinson Park project the developer will pay a $250 per unit fee to the city in exchange for the exemption
The council approved the $40,000 reduction in city fees, which would lower the total from $48,053 to about $8,503.
The city council also approved the CID for the UpTown Hutch Mall. The CID is approved with the condition that certain benchmarks be reached by the mall owners.
The council also heard from city staff concerning 10 properties that are considered unsafe and hazardous. The council approved and set a hearing date for June 17 to continue forward with the process to declare the properties unsafe and hazardous.
The next meeting of the Hutchinson City Council is set for May 20.
