HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Doc, the restored B-29 Superfortress departed Hutchinson Regional Airport on Thursday afternoon on its way back to the B-29 Doc Hangar at Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita.
The aircraft was on its way home from Edmond, Okla. when it was diverted to Hutchinson on Sunday. The plane has spent the past four days at the Hutchinson airport. Doc was in Oklahoma as part of the B-29 Doc History Restored Tour to Land.
Per the B-29 Doc website, Doc is a B-29 Superfortress and one of 1,644 manufactured in Wichita during World War II. Doc was found in 1987 sitting and rotting away in the Mojave Desert. Since then the historic warbird has been restored to flying status, serving as a flying museum.
Over 200 people were in attendance at the airport on Thursday afternoon to see Doc takeoff and head back to Wichita.
