HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Major Paul James with the Salvation Army in Hutchinson notes that his organization is using technology to get more people signed up for assistance this year.
"We are doing our registration for individuals that are needing assistance this season online," James said. "People can go to our Facebook page at The Salvation Army Hutchinson, KS to follow that link."
Those needing Christmas assistance need to sign up soon. The deadline is December 2.
"Our building's not closed, but we're doing by appointments only at this point," James said. "It's just to try to keep everybody safe with the number of COVID cases increasing."
The need is great this year.
"We've got about 975 children signed up for toys and just over 700 families for food baskets," James said. "Those are single individuals as well as families with children."
If you want to help, the Salvation Army still needs bell ringers for the season. Sign up at registertoring.com.
