KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Dairon Blanco executed a suicide squeeze bunt in the ninth inning to score pinch-runner Samad Taylor, and the Kansas City Royals rallied after blowing a 5-0 lead to hand the playoff-contending Seattle Mariners their third straight loss, 7-6 on Monday night. Brady Singer took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, Bobby Witt Jr. hit an inside-the-park homer and Salvador Perez hit a three-run shot to build the Royals’ big lead. But it all came undone in the final two innings. Julio Rodríguez drove in four runs for the Mariners, including the go-ahead single in the ninth. But the Royals won it in the bottom half against Matt Brash.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Rookie Jordan Walker hit a bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals rallied for a 7-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics in a matchup of last-place teams. Walker’s first career triple capped a four-run seventh. Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer in the fifth, his 19th, for St. Louis. Jo Jo Romero got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. The Cardinals had lost their previous six meetings with the A's. Miles Mikolas departed with a 3-2 lead in the seventh but St. Louis reliever Giovanny Gallegos allowed two inherited runners to score.

DENVER (AP) — Nolan Jones singled in the go-ahead run in a four-run eighth inning and the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 on Monday night to snap a five-game losing streak. Charlie Blackmon, Ezequiel Tovar and Ryan McMahon opened the eighth inning with singles to load the bases against Joe Mantiply (1-1), the third Arizona pitcher. Scott McGough entered and retired Elias Diaz on a liner to shortstop Geraldo Perdomo before Brandon Rodgers’ two-run single tied the score and sent McMahon to third. Jones followed with his go-ahead single to center for a 5-4 lead, and pinch-hitter Alan Trejo greeted Kyle Nelson with a single to drive in Rodgers. The Rockies had six singles in the inning.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in the Dominican Republic are investigating Tampa Bay All-Star shortstop Wander Franco for an alleged relationship with a minor, according to the office of the attorney general in his native country. The Rays, meanwhile, placed the 22-year-old on the restricted list. The move will sideline Franco for at least six games while MLB investigates social media posts involving the player. The investigations follow reported social media posts suggesting Franco was in a relationship with a minor. The Associated Press has not been able to verify the reported posts. Asked about Franco’s alleged relationship with the minor, the media office of the attorney general in the Dominican Republic said in a statement “there are investigations regarding that matter.”

AMES, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa State spokesman has confirmed defensive lineman Isaiah Lee has left the program after being charged in connection with the state's investigation into illegal sports wagering at ISU and Iowa. Lee was charged with tampering with records for allegedly disguising his identity to place online sports wagers. Lee is alleged to have made 115 bets for $885 on the FanDuel mobile app. Among the bets were 12 on Iowa State football games, including one where he bet against the Cyclones against Texas in 2021. ISU won 30-7. A total of five ISU football starters have been charged so far.

UNDATED (AP) — Georgia begins its drive for an unprecedented college football championship three-peat as the No. 1 team in The Associated Press preseason Top 25. The Bulldogs received 60 of 63 first-place votes to easily outpoint No. 2 Michigan. The Wolverines received two first-place votes. Michigan's Big Ten rival, Ohio State is No. 3, with one first-place vote. Two more Southeastern Conference teams join Georgia in the top five. Alabama is No. 4, the Crimson Tide’s lowest preseason rankings since 2009, and LSU starts at No. 5. This is the second time in program history 2008 Georgia has been preseason No. 1.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — New Nebraska coach Matt Rhule says he wants to win right now but won't take any shortcuts in rebuilding one of college football's traditional programs. Rhule takes over a program coming off six straight losing seasons. Rhule brought success to Temple and Baylor before moving to the NFL. Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts began pursuing Rhule immediately after the Carolina Panthers fired Rhule last October. Georgia Tech transfer Jeff Sims will start at quarterback. Defensive coordinator Tony White has installed a 3-3-5 base alignment. Nebraska opens Aug. 31 at Minnesota.

UNDATED (AP) — A person with knowledge of the deal says the New York Jets agreed to terms on a one-year contract with former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook on Monday, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. The 28-year-old Cook joins a revamped Jets offense led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers and coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team hadn’t announced the agreement. NFL Network and ESPN first reported the deal is worth up to $8.6 million. Cook has run for at least 1,000 yards in each of the past four seasons, but was released by the Vikings on June 8 for salary cap savings.

UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the terms tells The Associated Press that three-time Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott has signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots worth $4 million. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hasn’t announced the move. The person says the contract can be worth up to $6 million with incentives. Elliott ran for 68 touchdowns and more than 8,000 yards in seven years with the Dallas Cowboys. After being drafted fourth overall out of Ohio State in 2016, he led the NFL in rushing yards in 2016. He was the runner-up for the AP Rookie of the Year award. He also has more than 2,300 receiving yards and 12 TD catches.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Former NFL tackle Michael Oher has filed a petition in a Tennessee probate court saying the couple he thought adopted him actually remain his conservators. Oher accuses Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy of lying to him nearly two decades ago by having him sign papers making them his conservators rather than his adoptive parents. The petition filed in Shelby County Probate Court asks for the conservatorship to be terminated along with asking for a full accounting of the money earned off the use of his name and story. He also asks to be paid what he's owed with interest and damages. The Oscar-nominated movie “The Blind Side” was based on Oher's relationship with the Tuohys.
