ABBYVILLE — The Abbyville Frontier Days Rodeo is this weekend and Pretty Prairie native Jacob Welker will start his bullfighting season there.
"It's really good to be home before I leave for pretty much three months straight," Welker said. "To be able to start the summer off on a high note is what I always look forward to, every year."
There will be ten rodeo queens at Abbyville this weekend. Miss Rodeo Kansas Zoe Bean is the local representative.
"I am actually from the biggest little city in Kansas, I come from Halstead," Bean said. "I have been known to attend the Abbyville Rodeo in the past, and always getting a wonderful slice of pie."
The most important thing for a rodeo queen is to pass on the love of rodeo to the next generation, but Bean says it all starts on the inside of the individual.
"Confidence will take you so far in the rodeo queen world, but also in life," Bean said. "Don't be afraid to take that next jump and run for either Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas or Miss Rodeo Kansas. It is something that will open so many doors for you in life. Just be confident in everything that you do."
