Campers will once again have access to several popular recreation areas at Cheney Lake beginning Friday, July 17.
Officials announced that barricades will be removed Friday morning, allowing campers to return to Heimerman Point, Wichita Point and Hobie Beach campgrounds after temporary closures caused by high water.
The reopening marks a significant step toward returning the lake's camping facilities to normal operations after elevated water levels forced multiple campground closures.
One campground will remain closed. Officials said the M&M campground is not yet ready to reopen and will remain closed until conditions improve. Updates on its status will be provided as they become available.
Lake officials said they are looking forward to welcoming campers back and encouraged anyone with questions or those wishing to check campsite availability to call the park office at 316-542-3664.
Visitors are encouraged to check current conditions before traveling and to continue using caution in areas that may still be affected by recent high water.
