HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It’s fall and that means the deer are getting more active around the area. And that means motorists have to be more aware when driving.
The Reno County Sheriff’s Department reported seven vehicle vs. deer accidents since Friday evening. Deer are more active in the fall and especially in the evening and just before sunrise. Motorists need to be especially cautious at that time and when driving near creek and river beds.
It does sound strange, but if a deer runs in front of your vehicle, it is better not to try and take evasive action as it could result in a far worse accident than striking the animal.
Fortunately, there were no injuries with any of the reported accidents over the weekend.
