Edwend Leroy ‘Ed’ Colvard, 90, of Hutchinson, died July 30, 2021, at Prairie Sunset Home, in Pretty Prairie. He was born August 9, 1930, in Sylvia, to Charles and Velma (Cole) Colvard.

Ed served as an artillery Private First Class in the United States Army from 1952 to 1953 during the Korean War, earning 3 bronze stars. He worked as a machinist for Cessna/Eaton and at Otasco before retiring in 1991. Ed loved woodworking, especially making toy wagons, trucks, trains, barns, benches, and doll beds. He also loved caring for his roses, lilies, squirrels, and birds. Ed was a member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene.

On December 31, 1951, he married Bessie Lou Voss, in Sterling. They shared nearly 70 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are: children, Cameron Colvard (Jana) of Augusta, Meryl Colvard (Evelyn) of Pretty Prairie, Cindy Teter (Les) of Buhler; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Iona Applegate, Louise Faye, Mary Julian; and numerous extended family members.

Ed was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Vernen and Leonal; and sisters, Naomi Wedel and Martha Louthridge Theil.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Fairlawn Burial Park, 2401 Carey Blvd., Hutchinson, with Pastor Johnnie Spellman officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary.
