LENEXA, Kan. — Several area swimmers and relay teams will compete this week at the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 5-1A girls swimming and diving state championships at the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center.
The meet begins Thursday with diving preliminaries and semifinals. Class 5-1A swimming preliminaries are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, with swimming and diving finals set for 10 a.m. Saturday.
Hutchinson enters the meet with three relay teams and two individual qualifiers. The Salthawks are seeded 12th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2 minutes, 3.79 seconds, 10th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:51.13 and 16th in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:10.37.
Individually, Hutchinson senior AJ Gooch is seeded 11th in the 200 freestyle in 2:10.29 and fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.13. Alayna Wiggins is seeded 14th in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.96 and ninth in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.23.
Buhler also qualified in three relays. The Crusaders are seeded 19th in the 200 medley relay in 2:09.14, 19th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.12 and 17th in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:11.39. Buhler sophomore Hannah Swain is seeded 15th in the 100 freestyle in 59.01 seconds.
McPherson senior Adyson Wiens qualified in two individual events. Wiens is seeded 12th in the 200 individual medley in 2:27.58 and ninth in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.95. McPherson also is seeded 20th in the 200 medley relay in 2:10.12.
Hesston senior Angela Ewert qualified in two distance freestyle events. Ewert is seeded seventh in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.29 and eighth in the 500 freestyle in 5:47.62. Hesston is seeded 23rd in the 200 medley relay in 2:11.18 and 18th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:53.46.
Moundridge senior Ella Schrag qualified in the 100 butterfly and is seeded 20th in 1:09.36.
Newton freshman Jordyn Tauiliili qualified in two sprint freestyle events. She is seeded 10th in the 50 freestyle in 26.46 and 17th in the 100 freestyle in 59.12. Newton also is listed as an alternate in the 200 freestyle relay.
