HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Looking for a high-quality 4-year-old preschool program that’s FREE? The USD 308 Early Childhood Education Program is operated for students in the Hutchinson USD 308 school district. There is no cost for children to attend. Students attend Monday through Friday with full day sessions: 8:15-2:30. The program is offered at Avenue A School.
The program serves 4-year-old students (born on or before August 31) who may be at risk for academic and developmental progress. Students must NOT be Kindergarten eligible (5 years old on or before August 31). At least 50% of participants in the program must be identified using multiple criteria such as:
(1) Poverty;
(2) Single parent families;
(3) DCF (SRS) referral;
(4) Teen parents;
(5) Either parent lacking a high school diploma or GED;
(6) Child qualifies for migrant status;
(7) Limited English proficiency; or
(8) Developmentally or academically delayed based on assessments
The goal is to ensure that every child, regardless of home background, home language, or learning style, maintains enthusiasm for learning while experiencing success in developing skills for later learning.
