Ruth Hill, 98, of Haven, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Wheatlands Nursing Home in Kingman.
Ruth was born January 10, 1923, to Virgil and Florence (Ralph) Norton in rural Haven. She attended Highland, Savage and Evening Star grade schools and graduated from Haven High School in 1940. Ruth and Duane Hill became high school sweethearts and were married August 23, 1942. When Duane was drafted into the Army in 1944, they moved to Camp Wolters, TX and later moved to the family farm east of Haven.
Ruth worked as a production worker/office manager at Boeing Company, Wichita and Bookkeeper/Secretary at Kincaid Equipment, Haven. She enjoyed playing bridge, watching sporting events especially the Shockers, KC Chiefs and KC Royals, was an avid golfer, and loved to entertain and spend time with her family and friends. She was a fabulous cook and was known for her yummy banana pies and tins of caramels that she gave to family and friends at Christmas. She was a member of the Haven Methodist Church.
Survivors include son, Jim (Connie) , Kingman; daughter, Judy (Hill) Grame (Daryl), Platte City, MO; two grandsons, Brandon Hill, Overland Park; Bill Ellithorpe (Courtney), Kingman; four granddaughters, Tami (Hill) Harney (Aaron) Broomfield, CO; Megan (Ellithorpe) Pope (Jonathan), Little Rock, AR; Janel (Grame) Zion (Jeff), Camden Point, MO; Stacy (Grame) Zahn (Ed), Lenexa; great-grandchildren, Spencer Ellithorpe, Camryn Hardgrave, Anderson Pope, Alyssa Zion, Katie Lomax (John), Whitley and Avery Zahn; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Duane who died in February, 2000; her parents; three brothers, Phillip Norton, Duane Norton, Bill Norton and two sisters, Kathleen Brenzikofer and Wanda Simons.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 4, 2021 at Haven United Methodist Church, Haven. Burial will follow at Laurel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 3, at Ott Funeral Home. Family will not be present and the casket will be closed.
