First candidate has filed in new Reno County commission district

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Deputy Elections Clerk Jenna Fager reported Wednesday that there has been a filing for one of the newly created county commission districts.

Mark Reese has filed in the new commission District 4 as a Republican. The new District 4 has its entire boundary in the City of Hutchinson. The new District 5 does not yet have anyone filed.

Hutch Post previously reported that one person has filed for Ron Sellers seat in District 1. Cris Corey has filed as a Republican candidate.

Ron Hirst in District 2 and Daniel Friesen in District 3 are in the middle of their terms. They each have been elected until 2024.

Reno County Commissioners meet the second, fourth and sometimes fifth Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m.

Commissioners approved a Resolution setting the 2023 commission wages at $10,800 per commissioner.

Reno County Commissioners serve four-year terms and must reside within their district boundaries.

The filing deadline for Commission seats is June 1 at noon. The primary, if necessary, will take place in August.
