The Hutchinson Police Department is reminding motorists that it is illegal to cross the center line of a two-way street to angle park on the opposite side of the roadway.

Under Hutchinson City Ordinance 23-405, drivers are prohibited from turning across the center line of any two-way street or highway for the purpose of angle parking along the opposite side of the road. The ordinance was adopted in 2007.

Police say violations can result in a $20 fine, plus $79 in court costs.

The department said officers have received complaints about the practice in several locations, particularly along North and South Main Street and near the Don Michael Practice Fields in the 800 block of East 17th Avenue.

Officials are encouraging drivers to park legally and avoid crossing the center line to access angled parking spaces.

Anyone with questions about the ordinance can contact the Hutchinson Police Department Traffic Unit at 620-694-2854.
