Man accused of setting fire at Kansas home

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating the cause of a Kansas house fire have made an arrest.

Just after 8:30a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to the fire in a home at 229 SW Western Avenue in Topeka, according to Fire Marshal Todd Harrison.

Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from the single story residence. Three occupants were able to escape prior to the fire departments arrival.

A preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be intentionally set.  Authorities arrested 30-year old Austen Burris and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on a requested charge of Aggravated Arson.

The estimated dollar loss – $1,000.00; all of which is associated with structural loss. Working smoke detectors were not located within the structure of fire origin
