⚾ Monarchs close out regular season with win over Kingman

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Monarchs closed out the regular season strong with a come-from-behind 5-3 win on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field. 

Jaden Gustafson came in for Zerick Warren after the Monarchs had allowed Kingman to regain the 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth.

Gustafson drove in Sam Wiese and Jovan Suarez to give the Monarchs a 4-3 lead. Brett Smajstrla added an insurance run scoring Gustafson to score the games final run.

Jace Minor pitched five strong innings before giving way to Brayden McClure, Garrett Fromer, Carson Cornelius and Reed Scott, who each pitched one inning.

Cornelius earned the win, while Scott was credited with the save.

The Monarchs will open play at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the first round of the NBC World Series at Eck Stadium.
