Commission to discuss new phone service

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County commissioners will get an update from IT Director Mike Mathews during Tuesday's agenda session.

Mathews wants to address the current phone system for the county, which will soon need to be replaced. Mathews says there are three current vendors who could provide new services for the phone system. Mathews says all three vendors, IdeaTek, Cox and CTA, would provide service to where the county would not have to support any hardware in the future. All three vendors handle things a little differently, but as of now, Mathews is looking at either Cox or IdeaTek.

Right now, the county pays about $6,000 per month for phone service. Under the two proposals he has looked at, the cost would run from $5,500 to more than $8,000 per month.

The matter is up for discussion only by the board. Tuesday’s meeting begins at 9 a.m. at the Reno County Courthouse.
