HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed HB 2435 on Thursday which includes Public Safety Telecommunicators alongside other heroes in public safety such as Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and Emergency Medical Technicians.
"It's incredible around here today," said Jessica Lynch, Director of Emergency Communications. "Our people are just so excited and thankful and really appreciate that recognition."
Lynch said her colleagues in dispatch are so glad to be there for each other and for the public.
"The biggest thing is always just bringing forward, you know, truly, that service to our community," Lynch said. "We have this opportunity to be there for people when things are at their worst. We get that opportunity to really serve them."
The definition of "emergency responder" has now also been redefined in the Kansas Intrastate Emergency Mutual Aid Act to include 911 call center public safety telecommunicators.
