Monarchs split with Twins Friday

DERBY — The Hutchinson Monarchs and the Derby Twins split a doubleheader in Derby Friday night.

Derby scored in the bottom of the eighth of game one when Derek Winn drove in the game winner for the Twins.

Carson Cornelius took the loss for the Monarchs. The righty went two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.

In game two, the Monarchs were dominant as they had five runs in the third inning en route to a 9-0 win. Will Stark, Lane Brewster, Sawyer Thornhill, and Karson Coffee all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Brett Herrmann earned the victory on the mound. He was helped by Noah Kelley and Peter Newton. The trio gave up just five Twins hits total.

The Monarchs, now 12-4, are back on the diamond tonight against the Great Bend Bat Cats at Al Burns Memorial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
